The Latin American Video Archive (LAVA) is a unique project involving the students and faculty of Ramapo College in Mahwah, NJ. The students translated, subtitled and developed a model curriculum using a wide range of media produced in Latin America. Using the tapes, students and community members are able to explore the interconnections of the history, politics and culture of North, Central and South America. From the Ictus theatre group in Chile, to a tape made by the guerillas in El Salvador, this specially edited segment for Deep Dish de-mystifies the images behind the "sound bites" from the evening news. The segments are introduced by students, who will give a context to each piece.
